  • Who We Invest With

The Guardians work with a number of third parties around the world to execute our investment strategies for the Fund. We have provided a full list of these third parties on this page. The list includes where we have invested in specific funds managed by third parties and where we have appointed external investment managers for specific mandates.

These decisions are carefully made and their outcomes carefully monitored. We understand that there is considerable interest in this, particularly in how we appoint and review the performance of investment managers. You can read more about that on this page.

    Appointing Investment Managers

Managers are appointed after a formal selection process that evaluates their investment philosophy, how they apply their philosophy, their insight, the quality of their investment management team, and their overall fit with the objectives of the Fund. Neil Williams, General Manager Asset Allocation, provides further insight into the Guardians' approach to selecting investment managers for public markets in the following article. Matt Whineray, General Manager Investments, explains the subtly different approach the Guardians take to selecting investment managers for private markets here.

    Reviewing Investment Manager Performance

Managers are reviewed on an ongoing basis, with a formal assessment conducted at least annually. If the Guardians are unhappy with the relationship, then it has the ability to terminate the manager's services without notice.

While managers are responsible for their mandate, the Board remains fully accountable for all aspects of the Fund's investment performance, and for compliance and control. For more information on the Fund's governance, click here.

As of 10 November 2011, we invest with the following third parties:
